For the first time in history, New Mexico is close to sending a historic all-female delegation to Congress. Our governor continues to be ahead of the curve during this unprecedented crisis. Now, more than ever, we live in a state that will represent and listen to women and girls.
New Mexico needs your voice to help guide its future because you are its future. It’s time to tell them who you are and what you want.
Here’s the project:
Create short films or videos where you tell the leaders of New Mexico what’s important to you:
Who are you?
What do you love?
What do you believe?
What issues are important to you?
What needs to change?
What is the path to the future?
What is your hope for New Mexico in 5 years, in 10?
If you could tell our New Mexico female leaders about one thing that you would like to change in your world, what would it be?
Why does your voice matter?
The videos can be narrative or documentary. They can have words or just images. You can answer the questions yourself or interview the important women in your life: your teachers, your family members, your friends. You can shoot on your phone, on a film camera, or you can do animation. The videos can be 5 seconds or 5 minutes long. The creative nature of the piece is entirely up to you.
No camera? No problem. Contact us and we will send a crew to you or let you know when we will be filming in your neighborhood.
The films we receive will be compiled to create the New Mexico Girls Make Movies Voices in Power Project. We will send your collective work to state representatives and to local media outlets. We will post on social media and share widely on multiple video platforms.
Together, we will make New Mexico a place where the voices of young women are heard and respected. New Mexico Girls Makes Movies is here to support you as you call for a brighter future.
You must be 12-25 and a resident of New Mexico. All filmmakers will receive credit for their work. All submissions must comply with current New Mexico Covid-19 and social distancing regulations as ordered by our Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.

For every video we receive, we will donate $20 up to $2000 to the NMGMM Film Education Scholarship Fund to send young New Mexican women to film programs and school. For information or to apply for the scholarship, click here.
